Kill The Spirit Debut Release Date Announced & Video Clip Posted

Sun Serpent is pleased to announce a September 23, 2016 release for the self-titled debut by the new maestros of sonic artistry, Kill The Spirit. To celebrate this joyous occasion we are also debuting a video clip for the track "Monster" which is set to appear on the album.

Conceived and set in motion as "just another project" (Dave and Dom having worked together previously on various artistic endeavors) they both quickly realized the fantastic possibilities of this new and exciting enterprise. Like-minded in principle, the dichotomy of the relationship is the distance between the two collaborators, which is about 1200 miles.

"This project began just like any of our other projects," explains Dave, "where one of us simply texts the other, 'I have an idea!' And in this instance it started with me asking Dom if he would mind recording and collecting various sound bites of everyday things that I could then tinker with. He complied, and a few days later I sent him a sample of what I was working on."

While Dom does have past musical experience, playing drums in late 90's band Touchbox (among others), his artistic output for the last decade has focused predominantly on painting, but also includes directing short films & music videos, special effects make-up and writing. When he listened to the sample Dave sent he knew it was time to take a closer look. "Recording capabilities have changed a bit since my last musical project," says Dom. "And I saw this as an entirely new and interesting palette to work with, as well as a positive learning experience."

Dave, who also currently writes & records with Carrion Witch & 40armboy, agrees the less stringent "musical" boundaries of Kill The Spirit are a breath of fresh air, and allow him to express in new ways his ever expanding musical ideas. With the two of them working & experimenting diligently - sometimes individually, sometimes collaboratively - within a few weeks 4 complete pieces of sound had been laid out. The first piece to see release was "Temple of Mammon" via YouTube on May 30, 2016. Arrangements for the track "Monster" began the very next day, and it appears they have not slowed down since.

"The fun part is sending each other a new piece for the first time," elaborates Dave. "I'll look forward to his reaction to a piece I'm working on, and at the same time I'm anxious to hear what he is going to come up with next. And the possibility to co-pilot this project in any and every direction we desire...? It's very liberating artistically."
